Despite the weather showing us an early taste of winter, Crawley RFC fielded three senior teams on the first league weekend.

With three full teams out spread across Sussex, the first weekend of the 2016/17 league campaign got off to a solid start. The 1st XV travelled to newly relegated Burgess Hill for the opening game in the Sussex Spitfire League campaign narrowly losing 18-13 in horrible conditions.

The 2nd XV played at Willoughby Fields against a strong Haywards Heath II's and despite being down for a large period of the game finally came out worthy victors 14-7 in the Sussex Oranjeboom 3 league getting their season of to a strong start.

CRFC 3rd XV made the sort trip to St Francis RFC to play their 2nd XV in newly created Sussex Merit League. Playing early before much of the poor weather the team, a blend of experience and newbies played a solid game coming out narrow victors at 7-0.

Well done to all of the players, team assistance and supporters for a great start to the season.

Next week we have Hove 2nd XV at home with the 1sts and the 2nds away to Hastings & Bexhill.
