The RFU have recently undertaken a review of representative rugby and the national Developing Player Programmes (DPP) resulting in some refinements.

The purpose of the review was to streamline the player pathway to ensure that it is clear and accessible to all players (in terms of accessibility and talent identification procedures) and ensuring that talented players are not being over trained or over played (as per regulation 15).

The review identified that there were many programmes being run across the country and that players and parents did not fully understand what the pathway was together with a concern over the player welfare from the additional levels of rugby they were playing each week.
